The practice of meditation is the and only way

You might be fat, thin, big, small, intelligent, stupid -- whatever you are, there is only one way, unconditionally, and that is to begin with the practice of meditation. The practice of meditation is the and only way.

23. kafli  - The science of Kriya Yoga

The science of Kriya Yoga, mentioned so often in these pages, became widely known in modern India through the instrumentality of Lahiri Mahasaya, my guru's guru. The Sanskrit root of Kriya is kri, to do, to act and react; the same root is found in the word karma, the natural principle of cause and effect. Kriya Yoga is thus "union (yoga) with the Infinite through a certain action or rite." A yogi who faithfully follows its technique is gradually freed from karma or the universal chain of causation.

Because of certain ancient yogic injunctions, I cannot give a full explanation of Kriya Yoga in the pages of a book intended for the general public. The actual technique must be learned from a Kriyaban or Kriya Yogi; here a broad reference must suffice.

Kriya Yoga is a simple, psychophysiological method by which the human blood is decarbonized and recharged with oxygen. The atoms of this extra oxygen are transmuted into life current to rejuvenate the brain and spinal centers. By stopping the accumulation of venous blood, the yogi is able to lessen or prevent the decay of tissues; the advanced yogi transmutes his cells into pure energy. Elijah, Jesus, Kabir and other prophets were past masters in the use of Kriya or a similar technique, by which they caused their bodies to dematerialize at will.

Kriya is an ancient science. Lahiri Mahasaya received it from his guru, Babaji, who rediscovered and clarified the technique after it had been lost in the Dark Ages.

"The Kriya Yoga which I am giving to the world through you in this nineteenth century," Babaji told Lahiri Mahasaya, "is a revival of the same science which Krishna gave, millenniums ago, to Arjuna, and which was later known to Patanjali, and to Christ, St. John, St. Paul, and other disciples."

If you can keep your beginner's mind forever, you are Buddha

So, the most difficult thing is to keep our beginner's mind in our practice.  So, if you can keep your beginner's mind forever, you are Buddha.  In this point, our practice should be constant.  We should practice our way with beginner's mind always.  There is no need to have deep understanding about Zen.  Even though you read Zen literature you have to keep this beginner's mind.  You have to read it with fresh mind.  We shouldn't say, "I know what is Zen," or "I have attained enlightenment."  We should be always big enough.  This is very important.  And we should be very, very careful about this point.

Merry Christmas from Prajnanananda

Merry Christmas (2004)

My loving divine children of God,On this special day I am thinking of you and praying for you all. Jesus Christ was born to Mother Mary. She was a virgin which symbolizes absolute purity. Inner purification can give birth to the child of consciousness, which is Christ consciousness. We practice various types of spiritual disciplines only for inner purification. Let us not forget that every moment we need this inner purity.

When we live in the present moment we live in consciousness. When we live in the past and in the future we live with the mind. Inner purity can make your journey go from the mind towards consciousness. Life is a continuous journey from mind to consciousness. In this journey you will find the treasure of love. The real purpose of life is to live with love consciously.
Let us contemplate Lord Jesus’ saying that we are to “love thy neighbor.” What does this really means? The neighbor is not just a person living next door. Anything next to you is your neighbor. The real meaning is to love all. Loving all means loving God.

Let us not forget that our life is not our life — it is the life of God. We do not know when we have to leave this world. In this short span of life let us live with love and to receive the love of God.

On this holy day of Christmas I am praying for you all. If you have a little love for me then please meditate a little more.

With all my love and oneness… a child of God

Christmas Message from Yogananda, 1933. “A Christmas Letter to Students, All Individuals, and All Nations”

 yogananda

Dear Friends:Let us decorate the growing Christmas Tree of Civilization with the flaming flags of all brother nations. Let us drown our differences and behold the branches of our National Life spreading out from the tree of one International Life. Let us demand that America, India, Germany, Russia, France, China, Japan, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Mexico, Egypt, and all nations, learn to decorate their flags on the Christmas Tree of Brotherhood and celebrate the coming of the United Nations of the World through their awakening in Christ.

Let all brother nations contribute their best to make a League of Hearts and a League of Wisdom in preparation for their coming Union. Let all nations consider themselves as Children of God, with different names only.

May the love of nations be the twinkling lights with which to decorate the Christmas Tree of World Union. Let us obliterate the oddities of dogmatism and behold all religions as the branches of the One Tree of Truth.

Let all sects celebrate around this One Christmas Tree of Universal Religion in the coming United States of the World. Let us behold the soft twigs of our temporary joy-loving senses, not projected away from, but joined together to the everlasting Christmas Tree of Divine Joy. May we all learn to climb up the Spinal Tree of Life and pass by the starry knots into the Infinite Kingdom of Christ.

In this coming Christmas, we shall celebrate the coming of One Kingdom, One Religion, One Brotherhood, One Human Nationality, One Wisdom, One Ever-New Happiness, One Language, One Race, One Universal Law, One Freedom, contact of One God, and One Understanding for all human brothers.

May this Christmas and New Year time fill you with the adamantine determination to improve yourself and others, as Christ would wish you to do, to usher in Paradise on Earth.

 Very sincerely yours,
Swami Yogananda

I see men quarrelling in the name of religion

ramakrishna1

Wherever I look, I see men quarrelling in the name of religion ---
Hindus, Mohammedans, Brâhmos, Vaishnavas, and the rest. But they
never reflect that He who is called Krishna is also called Úiva, and
bears the name of the Primal Energy, Jesus, and Âllâh as well --- the
same Râma with a thousand names.
A lake has several ghâts. At one the Hindus take water in pitchers and call it 'jal'; at another the Mussalmâns take water in leather bags and call it 'pâni'. At a third the Christians call it 'water'. Can we imagine that it is not 'jal', but only 'pâni' or 'water'? How ridiculous!

The substance is One under different names, and everyone is seeking the same substance; only climate, temperament, and name create differences. Let each man follow his own path. If he sincerely and ardently wishes to know God, peace be unto him! He will surely realize Him
.
