To be alone is essential for man to be uninfluenced, for something uncontaminated to take place. For this aloneness there seems to be no time, there are too many things to do, too many responsibilities and so on. To learn to be quiet, shutting oneself in one's room, to give the mind a rest, becomes a necessity. Love is part of this aloneness. To be simple, clear, and inwardly quiet, is to have that flame.

Spiritual life does no mean complete renunciation

 

Spiritual life does no mean complete renunciation. We have to live in the world. There is an old adage: 'Feet and hands in the world, and head in the forest. This means we should always remain in God-consciousness while we perform our work in society. Once we involve our ego-I am doing' – in any work we do, when problems arise, we must bear the consequences. But if we work with the attitude of 'God is the Master and I am His servant', we will truly become God's instrument.
