“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

My Loving and Divine Soul,

The thought of Jesus is reverberating in my head more and more with the coming of Easter. He is my Passover lamb. Jesus did not hesitate to be crucified for the sake of truth and love. His life of complete surrender to God, filled with prayer and sacrifice, reminds me of the critical nature of human beings. How could people go to such a state of revenge through false accusation, critical assessment, and judging in the w ron g way? Jesus said, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged” (Luke 6:37 ). He also said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:8-10). How beautiful is the message of Jesus, which is even relevant today.

Although in the passage of time there is so much change in the world, there is no such visible change in human nature and behavior. Even now one can find the same nature and behavior of human beings. Therefore, at the present time, the message of Jesus is very relevant for us to change our own attitude; transforming our negative qualities into goodness, compassion, and forgiveness.

On this special day Jesus prayed to the Lord, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34 ). Let us also pray, “O God, give us more tolerance, love, and faith.”

Let us contemplate on the message and life of Jesus.

Meditate sincerely.

Gurudev loved Jesus, and read and taught from the Bible regularly. We should try to follow Gurudev’s example.

On this special day I am praying to God to bless all of us and to forgive our ignorance and foolishness and bless us with love, kindnesses, and compassion.

I am writing this letter to you all from Gurudev’s ashram, at Hariharananda Gurukulam, where his holy body is taking final rest. The four-month brahmachari training course is coming to its end and I will be happy to see you all soon.

With love,

Wandering

My treasure is the cloud on the peak
The moon over  the valley
Traveling east or west
Light and free on the one road
I don't know whether I'm on the way
Or at home.

In today’s world of fear and uncertainty, every child should have one class period a day to dive within himself and experience the field of silence—bliss—the enormous reservoir of energy and intelligence that is deep within all of us. This is the way to save the coming generation.

I have been “diving within” through the Transcendental Meditation technique for over 30 years. It has changed my life, my world. I am not alone. Millions of other people of all ages, religions, and walks of life practice the technique and enjoy incredible benefits.

Finding your purpose

In Vedic mythology Agni is the god of fire, representing our own inner fire or the sacred light within. On a metaphorical level, Agni burns away whatever is unessential and reveals our true path or purpose. In our current economic downturn, Agni’s transformative power is evident and many people are looking deeper, compelled by crisis to ask the fundamental questions Who am I? and Why am I here?

While change can feel chaotic or unfairly arbitrary, we can learn to see it as a friend rather than a foe. Every event leads to only one of two possible outcomes: Either it is positive, or it brings up something we need to learn to create more good in our lives. Here is a simple process that can help you connect to your own soul purpose:

  1. Think back on those situations and projects where you excelled and had fun at the same time. What were you doing and why did it make you feel good? What gifts do you have that can serve others?
  2. Keep a daily journal for ten days, asking yourself the questions above after meditation and then writing down everything that comes to you. Your passion is the force of evolution that drives your life energy, so don’t suppress it by telling yourself that you can’t do it or that it is impractical.
  3. After ten days you will have some good ideas to work with. Now list one or two action steps that you can immediately take for each idea. Start with the smallest manageable step, such as making a phone call, signing up for a course, or getting the name of a mentor or someone who may be able to help you. The important thing is to identify that current of energy in you and then give it an outlet. Once it starts to flow, it builds its own momentum and creates its own path forward. That is the river of your life – your purpose. From there you just jump in and enjoy the ride.

In Tokyo in the Meiji era there lived two prominent teachers of opposite characteristics. One, Unsho, an instructor in Shingon, kept Buddha's precepts scrupulously. He never drank intoxicants, nor did he eat after eleven o'clock in the morning. The other teacher, Tanzan, a professor of philosophy at the Imperial University, never observed the precepts. Whenever he felt like eating, he ate, and when he felt like sleeping in the daytime he slept.

One day Unsho visited Tanzan, who was drinking wine at the time, not even a drop of which is suppposed to touch the tongue of a Buddhist.

"Hello, brother," Tanzan greeted him. "Won't you have a drink?"

"I never drink!" exclaimed Unsho solemnly.

"One who does not drink is not even human," said Tanzan.

"Do you mean to call me inhuman just because I do not indulge in intoxicating liquids!" exclaimed Unsho in anger. "Then if I am not human, what am I?"

"A Buddha," answered Tanzan.

Empty Your Cup

A university professor went to visit a famous Zen master. While the master quietly served tea, the professor talked about Zen. The master poured the visitor's cup to the brim, and then kept pouring. The professor watched the overflowing cup until he could no longer restrain himself. "It's overfull! No more will go in!" the professor blurted. "You are like this cup," the master replied, "How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup."
