Öll þekkjum við þá tilfinningu þegar við festumst í hugsanakeðju sem hringsólar í hausnum á okkur og heltekur líkama og sál. Leið Zen-hugleiðslunnar er einföld en krefjandi, þú þjálfar vitundina þannig að hún ferðist aftur og aftur mjúklega frá hugsun að öndun. Þannig getur þú verið þar sem þú ert.

To seek reality requires immense energy

 

To seek reality requires immense energy; and if man is not doing that, he dissipates his energy in ways that create mischief, and therefore society has to control him. Now, is it possible to liberate energy in seeking God or truth and, in the process of discovering what is true, to be a citizen who understands the fundamental issues of life and whom society cannot destroy?

 

You see, man is energy, and if man does not seek truth, this energy becomes destructive; therefore society controls and shapes the individual, which smothers this energy... And perhaps you have noticed another interesting and very simple fact: that the moment you really want to do something, you have the energy to do it. ...That very energy becomes the means of controlling itself, so you don't need outside discipline. In the search for reality, energy creates its own discipline. The man who is seeking reality spontaneously becomes the right kind of citizen, which is not according to the pattern of any particular society or government.

Essentially, what we are seeking is God, whether or not we use that name....

 

Essentially, what we are seeking is God, whether or not we use that name....What we crave at the deepest level of our being cannot be found in anything the world can give us.     

One of the ancient scriptures of India says, in relation to this truth: "Know it now or after a thousand incarnations." In other words, do you want to go on seeking in the wrong place and continually be frustrated?...People are frantically searching, but they cannot find what they are looking for; and that leads to despair. And not just despair; tremendous resentment and anger accrue in the process – a lot of anger, a lot of violence. Again, it is because people are seeking in the wrong place and therefore not finding true fulfillment....    

So...where do we find God?  God, or Spirit, or the Infinite Consciousness (it doesn't matter what word you want to use) is all-pervading, omnipresent. But as long as we are looking for That outside of ourselves, we are using the senses and the mortal mind, the faculties through which we cognize the outer world. Great saints of all religions have affirmed this truth: the senses and the human intellect cannot perceive God; these gross instruments are far too limited. We have to go inside. There, through the intuition of the soul, we find Him.
