Kriya yoga - Paramahamsa Prajnanananda I

Human life is a special gift of God. Man can make this life beautiful and make God’s creation more attractive through manifestation of love. This depends upon the right attitude to life and at the same time the right art of living. "Be happy and make others happy. Live healthy and help others to live healthy. Live in love and let others live in love" - should be the attitude to our life. This outlook and practice depends mostly on the condition of the mind.

Mind is the greatest blessing of God to the human being. But unfortunately, man does not know how to utilize this powerful mind to achieve its highest advantage. The mind is always restless running here and there. The nature of the mind is to be fickle.  The human mind is the fastest moving instrument, it moves faster than, even light. Mind is never- and can never remain idle.

Meditation is impossible with the restless mind. But how to control and regulate the mind? In the Bhagavad Gita the blessed Lord said: “No doubt the mind is difficult to control and it is restless, but it can be curbed by constant practice and detachment.” (VI/35).

The breath and the mind are correlated and causally connected. Through breath control one can get calmness and inner peace. In the authentic Kriya technique, one gradually regulates the breathing pattern. Meditation is the means of achieving the state of ceasing physical and mental activities completely. You are to attain mastery over your breathing, by which life will be regulated and balanced because restless mind is the cause of restless breath, as is seen in the case of an angry or depressed person.

Kriya may justly be called the “airplane” route.

Kriya, controlling the mind directly through the life force, is the easiest, most effective, and most scientific avenue of approach to the Infinite. In contrast to the slow, uncertain “bullock cart” theological path to God, Kriya may justly be called the “airplane” route.

Andrew Cohen: On Meditation - How do you define meditation?

Andrew Cohen: Well, meditation is the- is when we- is the-- Well, when we actually experience meditation, when we’re not trying to do it, it’s the awakening to consciousness itself so specific- so the very simple definition is that most of the time our awareness is focused upon particular objects that arise in consciousness whether they may be thoughts, objects, other people and our ideas about them. So 99% of the- 99.9999 or almost all the time our attention is focused on objects that arise in consciousness. So the experience of meditation is when our awareness is released from identification with any object and begins to focus on consciousness itself. So when awareness focuses on its own ground, which is consciousness, that’s what meditation is.

What is the ultimate goal for a follower of the Hindu religion?

What is the ultimate goal for a follower of the Hindu religion?

The ultimate goal for a follower of the Hindu religion is the same as that for a follower of any religion it is the attainment of perfection in Godhead. Whether you are a Hindu, a Christian, a Buddhist, a Jew, a Muslim, or a Zoroastrian, the ideal is the same whether you call it the beatific vision, illumination, samadhi, or nirvana.

Christ expressed it in these words, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." He didn't say that you have to die a physical death in order to attain that perfection. But your ego must die and you have to be reborn in Spirit in order to enter into the Kingdom of God " The goal, as both Hindus and Buddhists emphasize, is to be realized here and now, in this very life.

The knowing Self is not born

18

The knowing Self is not born; It does not die. It has not sprung from anything; nothing has sprung from It. Birthless, eternal, everlasting and ancient, It is not killed when the body is killed.

... believe in nothing

I have discovered that it is necessary, absolutely necessary, to believe in nothing.
That is, we have to believe in something which has no form and no color -
something which exists before all forms and colors appear.
This is a very important point.  No matter what god or
doctrine you believe in, if you become attached to it, your belief will be based
more or less on a self-centered idea .... In constantly seeking to actualize
your ideal, you will have no time for composure.  But if you
are always prepared for accepting everything we see as something appearing from
nothing.... then at that moment you will have perfect composure.

What is Zen?

Zen is very simple... What are you?

In this whole world everyone searches for happiness outside, but nobody understands their true self inside.

Everybody says, "I" -- "I want this, I am like that..." But nobody understands this "I." Before you were born, where did your I come from? When you die, where will your I go? If you sincerely ask, "what am I?" sooner or later you will run into a wall where all thinking is cut off. We call this "don't know."

Zen is keeping this "don't know" mind always and everywhere.

When walking, standing, sitting,
     lying down, speaking, being
     silent, moving, being still.
At all times, in all places, without
     interruption -- what is this?
One mind is infinite kalpas.

Meditation in Zen means keeping don't-know mind when bowing, chanting and sitting Zen. This is formal Zen practice. And when doing something, just do it. When driving, just drive; when eating, just eat; when working, just work.

Finally, your don't-know mind will become clear. Then you can see the sky, only blue. You can see the tree, only green. Your mind is like a clear mirror. Red comes, the mirror is red; white comes the mirror is white. A hungry person comes, you can give him food; a thirsty person comes, you can give her something to drink. There is no desire for myself, only for all beings. That mind is already enlightenment, what we call Great Love, Great Compassion, the Great Bodhisattva Way. It's very simple, not difficult!

So Buddha said that all beings have Buddha-nature (enlightenment nature). But Zen Master Joju said that a dog has no Buddha-nature. Which one is right? Which one is wrong? If you find that, you find the true way.

Becoming a Buddha

Becoming a Buddha is not difficult because "Buddha" means
someone who is enlightened, who is capable of loving and forgiving.
